GLADYS MACCABE was born in Randalstown, Co. Antrim in 1918 and has been painting since she was a young girl. She has exhibited widely throughout Ireland and Britain, working tirelessly for over sixty-five years to promote understanding and respect for artists and their work.

In 1957, she founded the Ulster Society of Women Artists, which continues to flourish today. She is a past Vice-President of the Royal Ulster Academy. In 1980, he received an Honorary Master of Arts Degree from Queen’s University, Belfast. She was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to the arts, in 2000.

Artist, art critic, fashion correspondent, broadcaster and lecturer, Gladys Maccabe has been instrumental in the development of the thriving art scene which we enjoy in Ireland today.
